Readings for the week of 7/5-7/11/2009
Isa. 24-38 2 Chron 29-40 2 Kgs. 16-20
As we move along (historically speaking), we find King Hezekiah in control. He will accomplish the most far-reaching religious reforms since the days of Jehoshaphat. Hezekiah will cleanse the temple and restore proper worship and religious observance among his people. In a grand gesture of brotherhood, Hezekiah will offer to include the people of the northern tribes in Passover celebrations. Most will refuse the invitation, but some will join in the spiritual renewal. Read more »

Micah 1-7 Isa. 7- 34 2 Kings. 15:38 1 Chron 5, 28
Another prophet during Isaiah’s time is Micah and their writings are strikingly similar in content. God’s message through all of his prophets is unmistakably the same– sin, destruction, exile, restoration, and the coming of a Messiah to save the world. Read more »

For the Lord has spoken;
“I reared children and brought them up,
but they have rebelled against me.”
(Isa. 1:2-4)
After Hosea, God calls a lowly shepherd from Tekoa, to prophesy against several nations, but principally against Israel. Amos comes to Israel at a time when Jeroboam’s great military successes have brought unparalleled prosperity, and with it selfishness, greed, and immorality. Read more »
